NBA Legend Michael Jordan Eyed for Ryder Cup Vice Captain Role Following Keegan Bradley’s Appointment
In a surprising turn of events, NBA icon Michael Jordan has been suggested as a potential vice captain for the 2025 Ryder Cup, following the appointment of Keegan Bradley as captain.
On Monday, the PGA of America announced that Bradley would take over the reins from Zach Johnson, leading Team USA in their quest for redemption against Europe at Bethpage Black in New York. This decision came just ten months after Bradley’s devastating exclusion from the captain’s picks by Johnson for the Rome competition.
Bradley’s selection marks a significant shift, especially after Tiger Woods reportedly declined the captaincy. In response, the PGA of America opted for a broader approach, seeking fresh perspectives following the USA’s 16.5-11.5 defeat on European soil last September.
The organization is now being encouraged to further innovate with its vice captain choices for New York. Jason Sobel, host of PGA TOUR Radio, proposed the idea of bringing in collegiate golf coaches to invigorate the locker room dynamic.
This suggestion inspired an intriguing alternative from former caddie and ESPN writer Michael Collins.
“If we’re thinking outside the box, why not bring in a college coach who isn’t from the golf world, or even a figure from another sport?” Collins proposed. “Imagine having someone like Phil Jackson or Michael Jordan in the room.”
Collins also expressed support for former Alabama football coach Nick Saban, noting his enthusiasm for golf.
“I’d be totally on board with having someone like Saban in the team room, whether officially as an assistant captain or even in an unofficial capacity,” Sobel agreed, echoing the innovative ideas of incorporating notable figures like the Crimson Tide coach and the NBA legend.
