NEW YORK (AP) — Matt Ryan, who recently concluded his illustrious 15-year career in the NFL, is poised to embark on a new journey with CBS Sports as a studio analyst on “The NFL Today.” This announcement from the network on Monday also signified the departures of long-standing personalities Phil Simms and Boomer Esiason from the show.

Ryan will be joining an esteemed lineup that includes James Brown, Nate Burleson, Bill Cowher, and JJ Watt. Having commenced his association with CBS Sports last season as an NFL game analyst, the 2016 NFL MVP and four-time Pro Bowl quarterback made notable appearances in the studio during the playoffs and Super Bowl.

CBS Sports president and CEO David Berson expressed his confidence in Ryan’s capabilities, stating, “Matt had an outstanding first year at CBS Sports, excelling as both a studio and game analyst.” Berson further lauded Ryan’s teamwork and hailed him as a “Hall of Fame person,” expressing excitement over his contributions alongside the existing crew.

The contracts of Simms and Esiason expired following the conclusion of the Super Bowl. Simms had been with CBS since 1998, transitioning from lead game analyst to the studio in 2017.

“Great 26 yrs run with CBS SPORTS. Even though that part of my career is over I look forward to what is next,” Simms shared on social media.

Meanwhile, Esiason’s tenure on “The NFL Today” spanned an impressive 22 years, making him the show’s longest-tenured analyst. Esiason will continue his involvement with a New York sports talk radio show, which is simulcast on CBS Sports Network.

Acknowledging the contributions of Simms and Esiason, Berson stated, “Phil and Boomer set the standard of excellence for NFL analysts,” expressing gratitude for their dedication and commitment to enhancing CBS Sports’ NFL coverage over the years.

Ryan, known for his stints with the Atlanta Falcons and Indianapolis Colts, leaves behind a legacy marked by remarkable achievements. He ranks among the top 10 in NFL history in passing yards (62,792), touchdowns (381), completions (5,551), and attempts (8,464).
